As we move ever closer to the reintroduction of Siege Perilous, the team wanted to take the opportunity to show how some of the new gameplay features will affect the castle siege scenario. On Tuesday, Blair gave everyone the rundown on the new siege defender ballista and how players can use it to route the advance of the attacking Chaos forces. Today, we’re showing a preview of the ballista construction process itself.
Initially, the process of creating a ballista was communicated to nearby players via an in-world timing circle that showed how much of the process had been completed. Todd wanted to take things a bit further and actually incorporate a bit of RTS/simulator-style visual progression to the building of the siege weaponry. To achieve this, we created a series of construction stages to represent the desired visual progression. Add in some VFX to mark the changing of the major stages and we're presented with a construction process that is both visually impressive and systematically communicates how far the castle defense weaponry is to making the encroaching teams lives all that much worse.
What do you think of the new construction visualizations? Give us your feedback and tell us what you'd like to see for future siege weapon construction.
